CVC Popcorn Word Work
26 Random Acts of Kindness
My name is Julie. I am a kindergarten teacher and also the creator of this little blog called The Kinder Project.
I was deeply saddened by the events that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School and I wanted to do something to help honor the students, teachers, parents and community of Newtown, Connecticut.
I was watching the news and heard Ann Curry had posted a tweet about honoring this community by doing 26 random acts of kindness. What a great way to honor this community! The first idea that came to mind was doing this with the students in my class and teaching them to be kind and caring students.
I have created a list of 26 simple ways kids can show random acts of kindness. This product is a checklist of 26 simple things kids can do in class or home. We will be doing this when we get back from winter break!
This free product is my # 1 random act of kindness and I am using the Teachers Pay Teachers platform to hopefully reach teachers around the country! Imagine all the good that can be done if we all decided to do this!

My THREE Favorite Ladies!!!
My THREE favorite ladies are Giada, Paula and Rachael! I love their cookbooks and shows on the FOOD Network! I love watching their shows in the summer!!!!! Over my Christmas break I plan to make one yummy recipe from each of their cookbooks! I am so excited to have the time to cook a little over the break!!!! Can't wait to get started y'all! LOL!
Jet-Puffed MALLOW Bits!!!!!
Yay.....I am officially on winter break and what better way to celebrate with a hot chocolate and Jet-Puffed Mallow Bits!!! I just discovered them this week when I was out shopping for my class Christmas party! When I saw them I literally did a double take! I love these little crunchy marshmallow but they never seem to last long enough in my cup of hot chocolate! Now I have an endless supply!
So excited!
Winter Clothing - Emerget Reader
Well....it's the first official day of winter and the day the Mayan calendar predicted as the end of the world....I'm still here.....so I'm going to keep right on blogging (LOL) and telling you about my newest product that I will be using when we return from school after the winter break!!!!
This little emergent reader is called....What Do I Wear in the Winter! It talks about all the different clothing choices we make to get dressed in the coldest season of the year. I am in LOVE with this little book and I think it turned out super cute! It is about 11 pages long and has lots of sight words packed in! This is a great reader for Kinders mid-way into the school year! I hope you enjoy this book!
Popcorn Word Work on TPT!
I am really excited about this little popcorn activity packet I made for my classroom! My kiddos love doing popcorn words but I needed to challenge them a little more than just writing the word. So I came up with the idea of asking them to write the word and come up with a sentence that matched the popcorn word. I made one sheet for recording words only and one sheet for recording words and then writing pictures. So far it has been a huge success in my room!
I use this during literacy stations time! Kids love it!

Added some glue!

Christmas Chains
Tis The Season....To Put On A Few Pounds
Well....it's the time of year when making good healthy choices becomes very difficult....VERY difficult! After I dropped my kiddos off at specials I came into the teachers’ lounge and find this table! WOW....talk about a surprise! Absolutely AMAZING! This was brought to our school by our very dedicated PTA moms! We are so lucky to have them!
I had to take a picture of the table because it looked so beautiful!
Hot Chocolate Bar! So fun!
Now....how cute is this! A rice crispy treat that looks like coal! This must have been a Pinterest idea......isn't that where all the good ideas come from these days? :)
The damage! Yes...this was my afternoon snack...and I ate all of it! I might need to detox after December is over....but it's sure fun while it lasts.
What I Want From Santa
Well.....we have finally reached the time of year when some independence has been gained in our writing...well for some of us! :) We started to work on writing letters to Santa! We started this process by making a list! I love to see what the kiddos write!
This friend wanted Bat Man!
This friend had it all planned out! Too cute.....makes me smile inside to see them writing independently! It's been a LONG road getting us here! :)
Pattern Trains
We are wrapping up our inquiry into patterns and we did this fun little activity today in class! The kiddos were asked to build a train based on a unit card I gave them! They built the train and then I gave them Popsicle sticks and they had to break the train into cars. They had so much fun with this activity!!! Hope this gives you an idea for your classroom! I am going to have the kiddos make pattern trains for Polar Express Day!

Christmas Concert
What a weekend!
Besides being a busy kindergarten teacher...I also play violin in a community orchestra! This is a picture from our Christmas concert last night! I have a weekly rehearsal on Monday nights from 7 - 9. It makes for a very long day but it is worth getting to play with such outstanding musicians.

Pumpkin, Pumpkin
We planted a pumpkin seed back in October from a pumpkin we carved from the pumpkin patch. It now looks like this. The students were able to see the seed leaves drying up! They were amazed!!!
Update!!!! We have a pumpkin flower!!! The kids were so excited to see it! I love all the cute pumpkin books I have collected over the years to teach the kiddos about the pumpkin life cycle....but nothing beats the hands on experience of seeing it grown before our eyes. If only it wasn't December in Texas...we plant it!!
How Many Peppermints In The Jar
Today at library my students got to guess how many peppermints were in the jar. I had some great guesses. 2....200.....231....250... 3 million. LOL....always something to laugh at in kinder.
Good luck to the winner!

Polar Express Counting Jar
Check out the new product I made on TPT! It's called the Polar Express Counting Jar! My kiddos love going to the counting jar and counting the new items I place in it! This is a super cute book that asks kids to count how many items they see in the counting jar and record their answer. It's Polar Express theme! Very easy to make and you can use this during math time on Polar Express day! Enjoy!
